CCS Biology Alumni Speaker Series (C-BASS)

Abstract

CCS Biology Alumni Seminar Series (C-BASS) is a seminar series that highlights the narratives of CCS biology alumni beyond their time at UCSB – their accomplishments, their doubts, their failures, and how their tenacity has helped cultivate diversity in the larger scientific community. The pilot seminar series was held during the Fall 2020 quarter through ZOOM and featured a diverse speaker roster of five CCS biology alumni speakers, as well as a panel of graduate students. C-BASS highlighted unique stories of personal and scientific discovery. Taking advantage of the prevalent use of video sharing during online classes, the project kept the conversation about science active despite the inability to meet in person.
